The back door to influencing Iran

As those who've read this Times article on "Iranian Lessons" may have noticed, there is little America can do to directly support, encourage, or nurture greater freedom in Iran. On the other hand, interaction between Iran and the US-backed new Iraqi government could, despite the misgivings of some within the USG, actually create valuable inroads.
I do not believe the US can accomplish anything positive through military action in Iran...but forging closer ties between Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan (although a risky venture) could create more positive results within all three nations.
