A bold confession?

All right. Let me just stand up and make this clear. I did not watch the inaugural address. Nor have I bothered to look for the manuscript online (at least so far). Clearly this means I have fallen off of the news cycle, lost my way in the blogging art.

I have only these excuses to offer.

  1. I do not (by choice) own a TV.
  2. I live in Korea, 14 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time.
  3. I did, after all, vote for Kerry (and yes...it was an "I'm not so sure about this Bush fella" vote as opposed to a "You go, Johnny!" vote).
  4. I recently studied the Progressive Era and thus already have a firm understanding of Woodrow Wilson.
  5. From tracking the blogosphere's response, it appears as if there were at least three speeches, anyway. The speech witnessed at Belgravia Dispatch appears to have been a practical mix of idealism and realism. Deacon at Power Line isn't sure, but he thinks maybe some folks got confused in trying to look up the speech's text afterward. Matt Yglesias hears the beginning of a new, New Deal - sort of.
  6. From all the coverage they were getting, I assumed anti-war protestors had overturned the election...and then proceeded to behead every conservative "war-monger" they could get their hands on.
  7. I'm waiting for the Cliff note version.
  8. No, really. I haven't looked at the manuscript yet. Stop pestering me.
  9. I'm afraid I'll let the Kerry crowd's sense of doom infect me too deeply.
  10. With all the elections, inaugurations, and such going on these days, how's a person supposed to keep track of just one...?

MAN I can't wait to get my hands on those Cliff notes....
